SMI has begun development of several antimonide based products – contributing tooling and proprietary technology to a new venture in antimonide devices working in support of a major corporation. Two major antimonides based product areas are high speed heterojunctions bipolar transistors (HBTs) and thermophotovoltaics (TPV). HBTs are used for high speed communications and other applications.
Wireless Power Communication
Thermophotovoltaics are devices that directly convert infared photons (radiant heat) to electricity. TPV devices have a wide range of military and commercial applications which include: silent conventional fuel or solar heated radiator power generators – fuel is directly burned to heat a radiator which transmits power to the cells for direct energy generator; nuclear power supplies – where nuclear reactions are used to heat a radiator which transmits power to the cells for direct energy generation and in wireless power transmission where 1R LASERs can be used to beam power to any remote receiver.
